Thumbnails without a video

Make YouTube thumbnails for any video on the Thumbnails page, also one you didn't edit with Garren. Two per set, in the style of example thumbnails you like.

What you need

  • Example thumbnails: 2 to 4 that show the look you want. With your YouTube channel added, the page asks Use your channel's thumbnails as examples? Choose Yes, use these or Choose others. Or choose Add examples to pick from your channel or Upload thumbnails you like. These are the same examples a video's YouTube tab uses.
  • What's the video about?: the title, the topic, the mood, and any text you want on the thumbnail.
  • A photo of you (optional): a clear photo of you looking at the camera, as JPG, PNG or WebP. Without one, Garren works from the examples and your description. The page keeps your last photo for the next set; choose Remove to make one without it.

Make a set

Choose Create 2 thumbnails. A set takes about half a minute and uses 1 credit, also the first one. The thumbnails are 1280 × 720, ready for YouTube.

Your thumbnails

Every set lands under Your thumbnails, newest first.

  • Enlarge or download a thumbnail with the buttons on it.
  • Say what should change, for example "bigger text" or "my face on the left", and choose New set for two new thumbnails with that change. Leave the field empty for two new ones from the same description and photo. Each new set uses 1 credit.
  • Delete a set with the bin icon. Download the ones you want to keep first.

If a set can't be made, nothing is charged and the set says why.

People in thumbnails

When a thumbnail shows a person, make sure you have their permission to use their face. Check every thumbnail before you publish it.
