Making a video

Upload your footage

Add your raw takes as files or as Google Drive, Dropbox or YouTube links. Upload every take: Garren picks the best one of each line.

Start a new video

Choose New video in the app. The page walks you through three steps:

  1. What are you making? Pick the frame: YouTube / VSL (16:9), Reels, TikTok, Shorts (9:16) or Feed post (4:5).
  2. Add your footage. Drop your files or paste a link.
  3. Pick a style. One of your styles, a ready-made style, or No style.

Below the steps you'll find the options for this video, More options (title, length, script, notes) and the credit estimate. Then choose Start editing.

Files

Drop your recordings on the page, or click to choose them. You can add several files at once and add more with Add files.

  • Video: MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, MXF, WebM or AVI, straight from the camera or phone, 4K included.
  • Audio: WAV, MP3 or M4A, for example a separate microphone recording.
  • Size: up to 20 GB per file. For a bigger file, export a smaller version or split it.

Paste a link under Or paste a link instead of uploading:

  • Google Drive
  • Dropbox
  • YouTube

Shared links need to be viewable by anyone with the link. Garren downloads the footage when the edit starts.

Several files

Put all your takes in one video: false starts, retakes and different angles. Garren finds the best take of every line. When you add several files without a script, the page asks you to add your script so the parts play in the right order. If you don't have one, write a note instead, for example "the files are in the right order" or "file 2 is the intro". See Script, notes and length.

Start before the upload finishes

You don't have to wait for big files. Choose Start when uploaded and the edit begins as soon as the last file is up. Until then you can still change anything on the page, or cancel the edit.

Uploads run from your browser, so keep the Garren tab open until they're done. The browser asks before you close a tab with uploads still running. Once the edit has started, you can close the tab.

Before you start

The page shows how many credits the edit will use and how many you have left after it. On your free first video it says This edit is free. See How credits work.
